For the decade 1995-2005, NOAA has identified seven interrelated Strategic Goals for environmental assessment, prediction and stewardship. The Division of Physical Oceanography has active projects in three of these areas:

1. Predict and Assess Decadal to Centennial Climate Change
2. Implement Seasonal to Interannual Climate Forecasts
3. Sustain Healthy Coastal Ecosystems
