NOAA's Office of Ocean Exploration
Exploration is fundamental to the human spirit. Since the dawn of our species we have been explorers, and have been motivated by everything from curiosity to the demands of survival, to spiritual inspiration.
The ocean, our greatest resource yet to be explored, covers over 70% of the earth's surface. And yet, only a fraction of its secrets are known. With this in mind, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration launched a systematic, strategic effort to search and investigate the deepest reaches of our planet's oceans for the purpose of discovery.
This site describes the Office of Ocean Exploration and hosts its programmatic information. Many explorations sponsored by the Office of Ocean Exploration are chronicled on the NOAA Ocean Explorer Web site.
