Meuser: Democrats’ Spending Bill is Detrimental to Our Economy and Competitiveness That Crushes Opportunity and Creates Dependence

November 19, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) released the following statement after he voted NO and strongly advocated against the multi-trillion dollar wasteful reconciliation bill that adds $367 billion to our deficit, and ignores the needs of American families by prioritizing far-left special interest groups.

"Since Biden has come into office, the D.C. Swamp that needs to be drained has gotten $6.6 trillion deeper. The Build Back Broke bill is the latest iteration of Democrats' upside-down economic agenda, ignoring today's problems and doubling down on failed policies. What's in this partisan reconciliation bill says more about Democrats' big government agenda than the actual needs of the American people and it will exacerbate challenges currently facing working families and small businesses.

The Democrats Reckless tax and spend bill:

  • Adds $367 billion to the federal deficit, reduces GDP, and will drive inflation rates higher
  • Includes $400 billion in tax hikes on small businesses while giving an $80,000 tax break that overwhelmingly benefits wealthy Americans in Democrat run states
  • Provides amnesty, driver's licenses, and public benefits for 7 million illegal immigrants
  • Creates 150 new government programs that lack accountability or protections against waste, fraud, and abuse
  • Subsidizes green energy while imposing a tax on natural gas that will raise home energy prices and cost the American economy up to $9.1 billion and 90,000 jobs
  • Creates new unaccountable entitlements that will disincentivize work at a time when there are 10 million open jobs in the United States
  • Includes a 330,000 person Civilian Climate Corps
  • Spends $80 billion to expand the IRS by adding 87,000 new agents to increase audits

The Congressional Budget Office's score reaffirmed what we have known all along that this bill is not paid for, will increase the debt, decrease GDP, reduce wage growth, and drive inflation. The American people want a strong economy, greater opportunity, and independence. This bill does the opposite – it stifles growth, crushes opportunity, and grows dependence on government. We should be working to make our country better not make government bigger."– Congressman Dan Meuser
