Veterans

Since coming to Congress, I have been a strong advocate for proposals to support our veterans and their families. The brave men and women who served our nation deserve the very best we can provide them, and I will continue to support policies that address veteran homelessness, employment opportunities, and health care quality.

Further, I am concerned by the mental health issues plaguing our nation's veterans. Every day, 22 veterans die by suicide, and 20 percent of veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or major depression. As co-chairman of the bipartisan Military Mental Health Taskforce, I am working with my fellow co-chairman, Rep. Tim Ryan (OH-12), as well as medical experts and veteran service organizations, to find legislative solutions to mental health issues like traumatic brain injury and PTSD.
