Levin Welcomes FLOTUS and Sec. Cardona to MI-09

September 24, 2021

ROYAL OAK, MI – Today, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09), member of the House Education and Labor Committee, welcomed First Lady of the United States Dr. Jill Biden and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to Oakland Community College to close out the U.S. Department of Education's "Return to School Road Trip," a five-state bus tour aimed at highlighting students and communities returning to in-person learning. Rep. Levin underscored the importance of passing President Biden's Build Back Better agenda, which will tackle the cost of higher education with investments from Rep. Levin's America's College Promise Act.

"We have a truly historic moment ahead of us to deliver real, tangible improvements to the lives of working families across the country by enacting President Biden's bold agenda in the Build Back Better Act," said Rep. Levin. "As a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, I am proud to champion a critical piece of this legislation: providing two years of tuition-free community college for all Americans through investments from my America's College Promise Act. This will make good on the American promise of a high-quality education and remove financial barriers that have kept too many Americans from pursuing their education and dream careers. We are incredibly lucky to have leaders like the First Lady, Dr. Biden and Secretary Cardona, who come from the world of education and understand the importance of community colleges like OCC."
