The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize, encourage, and showcase the artistic talent of high school students in my Congressional District and across the country.

Overview

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Information for participation in the contest can be found below. Students submit entries to their representative's office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. In years past, winners were recognized both in their district and at an annual recognition ceremony in Washington, DC. Winners will receive two (2) complimentary round-trip plane tickets to Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol. Please note due to the ongoing situation the reception may need to be rescheduled or canceled and travel restrictions may impede the awarding or utilization of airline tickets.

All entries must meet the following criteria:

  • Be two-dimensional.
  • Be no larger than 26 inches wide by 26 inches tall by 4 inches thick including frame (paid for at artist's expense)
  • Not weigh more than 15 pounds.
  • Art may be paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, collages, and computer art. (Painting media include acrylic, oil, and water-color.)
