Social Security

In August of 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law, codifying access to lifesaving resources that impact over 70 million people every year. This program is significant to Valley seniors because it’s more than just a retirement program, it provides them life and disability insurance protections.

California’s 16th Congressional district is home to more than 100,124 Social Security recipients, and we must ensure these benefits keep up with their needs. A lot has changed about our country in 87 years, but the reliability of Social Security has not. It’s time to give them the tools they need in order to not only survive but thrive. That is why, I am a proud cosponsor of the Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust, which provides an increase in benefits, ends the 5-month waiting period to receive disability benefits, provides caregiver credits, and improves the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).

Additionally, I am a co-sponsor of the Social Security Fairness Act, which would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), two provisions of the Social Security Act, that have unfairly reduced and prevented social security benefits from millions of Americans who have dedicated their lives to public service. As your Representative in Congress, I am committed to working with my colleagues to protect Social Security from privatization, ensure access to benefits, and uphold our promise to serve all Americans.

If you are experiencing an issue with receiving your social security benefits, my team can help answer questions, get information, and cut through the red tape. Seniors of the 16th Congressional District of California can call or email my office for assistance in dealing with federal agencies. Learn more about seeking help with a federal agency.
