Foreign Affairs and National Security

Keeping Americans safe is my greatest responsibility as your representative in Congress. I believe that we must always take a diplomatic approach to our nation’s foreign policy. As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I am responsible for dealing with matters of national security abroad that affect us here at home. I am proud to work with my colleagues to strengthen our national security and global leadership.

To protect our interests abroad, I have advocated to defend human rights, strengthen diplomatic relations, invest in our national defense, and improve America’s leadership in the international community. As the U.S. Chairman of the Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue (TLD), I have worked with members of the U.S. House and European Parliament to strengthen trade, energy, climate, and security relations on several issues that affect our constituents. With rising challenges from terrorism, nuclear developments, and human rights violations, the United States must assert its global leadership to keep us safe at home and abroad.
