Flood Insurance

Given Sacramento’s position at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers, it is advisable, and in some areas, mandatory, for residents of Sacramento and West Sacramento to purchase flood insurance. Federally-backed flood insurance is available for purchase through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which is managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Keeping flood insurance premiums affordable is one of Congresswoman Matsui’s top priorities, which is why she has fought for hundreds of millions of federal dollars to be invested in the region’s flood protection infrastructure. Thanks to these investments, nearly all residents of Sacramento and West Sacramento now have the ability to purchase a NFIP policy at the lowest available rate (known as the Preferred Risk Policy, or PRP, rate).
