Help with a Federal Agency

If you are trying to navigate an issue with a federal agency,  Congresswoman Matsui’s office can contact the agency to obtain reliable information, find vital forms, and make inquiries on your behalf.  Although there is no guarantee of a favorable outcome, the Congresswoman’s staff is committed to receiving a fair and timely response from the agency.

To request help from the Congresswoman's office, please fill out the digital Privacy Release Form.

You can also print a hard copy of the privacy release form or the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) release form and mail to my Sacramento office.

When completing the form, please include the following information:

  • Relevant case, receipt or claim numbers

  • Social Security numbers for non immigration or visa cases

  • Passport numbers for visa cases

  • Copies of any related documents or recent correspondence that you may have from the agency involved

    • Do not send us original documents

If you need immediate assistance, you can call the Sacramento office at (916) 498-5600. Agency assistance, also known as casework, is exclusively managed out of the Sacramento office. What is a Caseworkers Role?

Caseworkers work to address problems or concerns a resident of the 6th District of California may have with a federal government agency. Examples include problems receiving Social Security benefits, disability, or difficulties with visa applications. Although Members of Congress cannot guarantee a particular outcome, if you live in California's 6th Congressional District, Congresswoman Matsui's office will work to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem. If you are not sure which congressional district you live in, please visit www.house.gov. You can enter your address and zip code to determine your Congressional Representative.

Before my staff can open a “case” or “inquiry” on your behalf, The Privacy Act of 1974 (5 U.S.C. § 552a) requires that Members of Congress or their staff have written authorization before they can obtain information about an individual's case. We must have your signature to proceed with this type of request.

Non-Federal Agency Assistance

Congresswoman Matsui's office cannot help you if your problem is not with a federal agency. Due to the Constitutional separation of powers between the three branches of government, judicial matters (legal matters which involve courts) do not fall under Congresswoman Matsui’s jurisdiction as a U.S. Representative.

Further, problems which involve California State agencies are not under Congresswoman Matsui's jurisdiction as a U.S. Representative. State and local issues are handled by your elected state and local representatives. Please find state and local contact information below:

If you have an issue with a state agency or program, please call your State Senator or State Assemblymember.

  • You can search for your STATE representative here.

If you have an issue with a local government agency or program, please call your City Council member or County Supervisor.
