Congressional App Competition

Each fall, Congressman Cicilline encourages middle and high school students who reside or attend school in the First Congressional District to take part in the Congressional App Challenge.

Officially launched by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, the Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide competition aimed at encouraging students to get involved in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

Students that participate will submit their apps written in any programming language (C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, "block code," etc.) for any platform (desktop/PC, web, mobile, tablet, etc.).

Students are allowed to compete individually or in teams of up to four people. In addition to submitting an app for the Congressional App Challenge, students will also prepare a video explaining what they learned during the competition. The deadline for 2021 Congressional App Challenge submissions is November 1, 2022.

Apps will be judged by a panel of experts. The winning student, or team of students, will have their app featured on the Congressional App Challenge website and it will also be eligible to be on display in the U.S. Capitol, honoring the winners from across the country.
