(WASHINGTON, DC) Today, Rep. Grace F. Napolitano (CA-32) issued the following statement on the escalating situation with Iran and the upcoming House consideration of the War Powers Resolution:
“They never lost hope or gave up,” she said. “It is a true testament to the life and sacrifice of this serviceman, who was decorated with the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal, that his loved ones remained so dedicated to ensuring he was not forgotten. His service, patriotism, and memory deserve to live on, which is why I’m proud to introduce this resolution with Congresswoman (Grace) Napolitano.”
VCP was set up in 2008 and 2009 by legendary archaeologist and forensics specialist Dr. Michael "Sonny" Trimble, who headed the Mass Graves Inspection Team in Iraq that led to the convictions of former members of dictator Saddam Hussein's regime for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The VCP's work was extended in 2016 under H.R. 3117, sponsored by Rep. Grace Napolitano, D-California, and signed into law by then-President Barack Obama.
For seven years, Congresswoman Grace Napolitano has held an annual veterans forum in Azusa to connect San Gabriel Valley veterans with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, whose Los Angeles and Long Beach medical centers can be prohibitively far away.
“We take care of any veterans, homeless or not,” Napolitano, D-El Monte, said. “It’s important that the VA gets to know what the needs are for veterans in the San Gabriel Valley.”
Spearheaded by U.S. reps Judy Chu, D-Pasadena; Grace Napolitano, D-El Monte,; and Adam Schiff, D-Burbank, the clinic will remain operational for three to five years and later replaced by a permanent, full clinic, said Hector Elizalde, deputy district director and veterans liaison for Napolitano.
The bill passed easily after brief remarks from U.S. Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, who called it “a no-brainer piece of legislation,” and U.S. Rep. Grace Napolitano, D- Calif., who said the legislation will make it easier for veterans groups to organize trips to national war memorials.
