Veterans

It is simply our duty as a nation, when we put our men and women in harm’s way, to care for them when they return. Congressman Pallone supports adequate funding for veterans programs to provide the men and women who fought for our country the support they need to stay healthy, get an education and find a good job. Congressman Pallone supports policies that would improve health services, increase job opportunities, and expand educational opportunities for veterans.

Edison, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today held a roundtable on veterans’ issues at Edison VFW Post 3117 with Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald Rios. During the roundtable, Pallone gave an update on legislation that has recently passed in the House of Representatives and heard directly from veterans about the issues they are facing. He also discussed ways to improve student GI benefits and veterans’ health care as well as ways to prevent veteran homelessness.

Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr.’s (NJ-06) Homeless Veterans Credit Repair, Enhancement, and Debt Improvement for Tomorrow (CREDIT) Act passed the House of Representatives today. The bill will help end veteran homelessness and housing instability by providing credit and financial counseling - a top ten unmet need for homeless veterans. In February, Pallone held a virtual roundtable with veterans in New Jersey to discuss how this bill would help the veteran community.

Long Branch, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that the Long Branch Housing Authority (LBHA) received an award of $107,057 to alleviate veteran homelessness. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) distributes the award through its HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program. The Program helps homeless veterans obtain affordable rental housing in the private sector. Congressman Pallone’s office helped the LBHA acquire the funding.

New Brunswick, NJ– Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) applauded Middlesex County for being recognized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for having effectively ended veterans' homelessness in the county. The Middlesex County freeholder board created a Veterans Housing Program in 2012 to assist veterans at risk of homelessness, committing $100,000 a year to the effort.

MORGANVILLE, NJ – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-6), along with Assemblywoman Amy Handlin and Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon, presented World War II veteran Joseph Zakalyk with eight distinguished honors for his achievements in the United States Army Air Forces and service to his country.  Mr. Zakalyk, who is now 94-years old, served during World War II as an aerial photographer and gunner in the 745th Bombardment Squadron, 456th Bombardment Group, Fifteenth Air Force, successfully participating in 35 combat missions.

Corbisiero, a Korean War veteran who lives in Edison, NJ, to present him with distinguished medals for his achievements and service to his country during the Korean War.  Mr. Corbisiero, who is now 82 years, has never been recognized with these medals before.
