LAFAYETTE, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced that FEMA will award two grants totaling $6,219,955 for flood mitigation efforts in Lafayette Parish.

The hazard mitigation grants include:

$3,420,195 to fund the elevation of seven structures and the acquisition of seven structures, which are all designated as Severe Repetitive Loss properties.
$2,799,760 to fund the elevation of five structures and the acquisition of eight structures, which are designated as either Repetitive Loss or Severe Repetitive Loss properties.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced that FEMA will award over $22.5 million for Hurricane Laura recovery efforts in Lafayette, Jeff Davis, and Vermilion parishes.

The grants include:

$1,678,092.08 to Lafayette City-Parish Consolidated Government for utility repairs in response to Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share.

$3,956,001.51 to Vermilion Parish for debris removal operations in response to Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 100% federal cost-share.

Gulf Coast shrimp boats

Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced Thursday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will purchase up to $25 million of Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Wild-Caught Shrimp to address food system supply chain disruptions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a release from Higgins' office, the USDA will purchase these products via the Food and Nutrition Service. Orders should be received during the first week of June with solicitations being issued mid-June and awards occurring near the end of the month.

Louisiana's congressional delegation: Sen. John Kennedy, Sen. Bill Cassidy, Rep. Clay Higgins, Rep. Steve Scalise, Rep. Garret Graves, Rep. Mike Johnson, and Rep. Julia Letlow sent a letter to leaders in the House and Senate to request hearings be held.

Capsized SEACOR Power Vessel

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today introduced the Vessel Response Plan Improvement Act in the wake of the Seacor Power tragedy, in which a commercial lift boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico with 19 crewmembers on board. Kennedy's bill would require commercial vessels to provide timely notifications to the crew's family members throughout search and rescue operations.

Border Wall Construction

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), a ranking member of the U.S. House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border Security, announced Thursday that he is introducing the Finish the Wall Act, which requires President Joe Biden's administration to resume construction of the border wall system.

According to a release from Higgins, the bill has more than 60 cosponsors and is one of House Republicans' five pillars to address the Biden border crisis.

Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins is urging Governor John Bel Edwards to use federal funding from the recent COVID-19 stimulus package on infrastructure needs in the state.

Higgins sent a letter on Tuesday urging Edwards to utilize federal funding to address Louisiana's infrastructure backlog. According to Higgin's Office, the recent budget reconciliation package provides Louisiana with over $5 billion in federal funding which provides broad discretion on how funds can be spent.
