For the past two years American families have suffered under Democrat policies. Inflation has shrunk paychecks and increased costs. Children have suffered severe education loss reversing years of learning. An out of control border crisis has made every state a border state and allowed deadly fentanyl to flow into our communities, making it the leading cause of death in Americans ages 18 to 45. And violent crime has put innocent people in danger.
Not only did Biden and Democrats cause these problems, but they have no plan to fix it. Republicans do. The House GOP’s Commitment to America will deliver on getting our nation back on track.
That’s why House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, Republican Whip Steve Scalise, Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, and other Members of the House Republican Conference traveled to Monongahela, Pennsylvania to speak with their fellow Americans about the Commitment to America, the House Republicans’ policy agenda.
In Pennsylvania, they heard from concerned parents about the impact of school closures on their child’s learning, law enforcement officers who have seen firsthand the deadly impact that fentanyl has had on our communities, and families who are struggling to keep up with rising prices.
In response to the concerns of the American people, the House Republicans explained how their agenda would create an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable.
Here’s what the Members had to say:
Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23): “We watched children with loss of learning get left behind. That’s what happened with the Democrats because they control Washington… but they have no plan to fix all the problems that they created — so you know what, we’ve created a Commitment to America.”
Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01): “Far left policies have led to record spending. When you see bills come out of Congress, it’s not hundreds of billions, but trillions of dollars of borrowed money, new taxes, and 87,000 IRS agents… if there’s 87,000 people that are needed, it’s not at the IRS; it’s at the border.”
Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (NY-21): “What I hear from my constituents is people are struggling. Families are struggling to make ends meet. Whether you go to the grocery store, or budgeting for those home heating bills that are skyrocketing this winter, or whether you struggled this past year to fill up your tank of gas. People feel that they’re working harder than ever before, but they’re falling further behind.”
Ranking Member Patrick McHenry (NC-10): “We need to bring back these supply chains to trusted allies and trusted partners. China is not a friend and they’re not an ally, they’re a competitor. We have to start acting as Americans and competing… We have a bold, broad plan to address the economic issues that America is facing today.”
Ranking Member Jim Jordan (OH-04): “I thought the Leader said something really profound in his remarks. He said that ‘our job is to work for you, not come after you.’ That is so important: House Republicans are committed to exposing and holding accountable those in our government who have come after ‘We The People.'”
Ranking Member Bryan Steil (WI-01): “By unleashing American energy with an all-the-above approach, we can dramatically reduce the cost of your family’s grocery bill. We also need to put policies in place that are connecting workers to the workforce and preparing workers for the jobs of the future.”
Rep. Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) “The cancer that is upon our society today is from fentanyl, and let’s face it, where is it coming from? It’s coming from across our border… I’m from Ohio, and believe me, we’re a border town too, just like you know you are today.”
Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14): “[The people of Southwestern Pennsylvania] work hard. We believe in America and American exceptionalism. We have the values that built this country, and frankly, values that we’re lacking in Washington, D.C… It’s the one-party rule that we’ve had for two years that have led to the disaster that we’re in right now.”
Rep. Tony Gonzales (TX-23): “House Republicans are committed to working alongside our law enforcement. every American deserves to live in a nation that is safe. Whether you’re in Texas, Pennsylvania, or Florida, it doesn’t matter, These are fundamental rights.”
Rep. Lisa McClain (MI-10): “We’re here today to talk about the Commitment to America. We have a positive, bright future that believes we need strong economics and we need to get people back to work.”
