Washington, DC - Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement regarding reports of a Russian missile landing in Polish territory, killing two people:

“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the Polish people for the loss of life as a result of today's missile incident, which according to numerous reports was launched by Russia. It is clear that incidents of this kind, whether intentional or unintentional, are the result of Russia’s reckless war against the people of Ukraine and its indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets. If Russia made a mistake, it needs to own it immediately. Deflecting and denying is not acceptable. Our Committee will continue to stand firmly with Polandour NATO allyand coordinate closely with them, the Administration, and the rest of the Alliance to get to the bottom of today’s events.”
