October 19, 2022

Washington, DC– Today, Rep. Haley Stevens (MI-11) hosted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Debbie Dingell (MI-12) at Our Next Energy (ONE), a start-up energy storage company in Novi, to tour their state-of-the-art EV battery manufacturing facilities and highlight policies to advance electric vehicle technologies in the recently enacted Inflation Reduction Act. Also in attendance were State Senator Rosemary Bayer, State Reps. Kelly Breen and Ranjeev Puri, and Director of Strategic Talent Initiatives Spencer Lucker of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

Michigan put the world on wheels and now, we are innovating a more sustainable future right here in the heart of the industrial Midwest,” said Rep. Haley Stevens (MI-11).House Democrats led by Speaker Pelosi worked tirelessly to see the Inflation Reduction Act passed and signed into law by President Biden which constitutes the single largest investment in transportation electrification in U.S. history. The impacts of this bill on businesses and consumers alike are historic and new EV tax credits will allow millions of Americans to make the switch to an electric vehicle. I am so proud of the work that our Michigan manufacturers and workers are doing to electrify our auto sector and I will always be their champion in the United States Congress.”

“It is a thrill to see firsthand how Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act is spurring clean energy innovation here in Michigan while fueling opportunity for working families,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said.  “Driven by the tireless leadership of Congresswoman Haley Stevens and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, the Democratic House proudly delivered historic investments to help businesses like ONE expand their operations, create more good-paying jobs and get more electric vehicles on the road.  As these investments are put to work, House Democrats remain laser-focused on slashing energy bills, combating the climate crisis and widening the path to prosperity for all Michiganders.”

“American workers are building electric vehicles that are affordable and efficient right here in Michigan – that’s why we prioritized EV policy in the Inflation Reduction Act to help the transition to electrification and keep the U.S. at the forefront of manufacturing, technology, and innovation,” said Rep. Debbie Dingell (MI-12).“With this legislation, we are investing in good-paying American jobs, reducing our dependency on foreign manufacturing, and strengthening our economic, national, and environmental security, while setting the foundation for long-term growth. As Rep. Stevens and I work together to support industry in our shared communities like Novi, I’m proud to welcome Speaker Pelosi to Southeastern Michigan to see first-hand how we are leading the way in American mobility.”

“The Inflation Reduction Act will allow us to reinvest in product research and development, grow our manufacturing base, and build the domestic supply chain needed for a green industrial revolution,” said Mujeeb Ijaz, founder and CEO of ONE.“Today’s visit underscores how deep collaboration between members of Congress, state leaders, and private industry is crucial to accelerating our domestic clean energy economy. We’re proud to be on a path that allows us to support the creation of new high-quality jobs that strengthen our energy security.”

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is a generational investment in the United States’ clean energy economy. Investments from the IRA will help the U.S. compete in the global transition to electric vehicles by driving down battery costs and incentivizing the production and purchase of EVs in the United States. Tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act will create more than 260,000 jobs to make battery and fuel cell EVs up to $7,5000 cheaper, while expanding access to EV charging.
