Social Security

Social Security is an earned benefit, and I want to make sure it’s sustained and strengthened.

Social Security serves our communities and provides critical support to our nation’s retirees and our economy. This program supports millions of Americans. A Social Security check is often the most important check a beneficiary receives each month.

Most importantly, Social Security serves as the foundation for America's retirement plans. Millennials will rely more on Social Security for retirement than their parents or grandparents.

It’s no secret that the future of Social Security is in jeopardy if we do not act quickly. The work that we do to strengthen Social Security today will have an impact for years to come. That is why I am proud to support and strongly advocate for Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust

The Social Security 2100 Act would strengthen benefits for New Mexicans and all Americans. If enacted, this legislation would increase Social Security benefits and strengthen the Trust Fund.

More specifically, the Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust Act would:

  • Increase benefits for all beneficiaries by 2%.
  • Improve the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).
  • Ends the 5-month waiting period to receive disability benefits.
  • Improve benefits for widows, widowers, and low-wage workers.
  • Strengthen the Trust Fund by making the wealthy pay their fair share.

Additionally, I know the importance of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). It’s vital that these insurance programs administered by the Social Security Administration serve beneficiaries as effectively as possible and ensure they stay out of poverty.
