Statement by Congressman Kildee on Passage of the Respect for Marriage Act

December 8, 2022
Press Release

WASHINGTON—Congressman Dan Kildee, Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Respect for Marriage Act, sending it to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law:

“Every Michigander should be able to marry the person they love. I was proud to stand with Republicans, Democrats and the majority of Americans who want us to protect same-sex and interracial marriage rights in federal law. These loving couples deserve the same certainty, dignity and respect as all other marriages. In Congress, I will continue to fight to protect the individual rights and freedoms of all Michiganders.”
