CAPAC Chair Chu Statement Honoring House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer announced that he will not pursue a leadership post in the 118th Congress. CAPAC Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) issued the following statement:

“For two decades, Leader Hoyer has led the House as the second-highest ranked member of the Democratic party and as a steadfast champion on behalf of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities. Leader Hoyer has brought historic and essential bills to the floor, including the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, which will combat anti-Asian hate and provide resources for victims, as well as the Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture Act, which will create the first national museum dedicated to preserving the history, culture, and accomplishments of Asian Pacific Americans. In addition, Leader Hoyer has pushed for the passage of the American DREAM and Promise Act on behalf of all immigrant communities, including undocumented AANHPI immigrants.
