Appropriations and Federal Funding

Congress annually considers several appropriations measures, which provide discretionary funding for all kinds of things — national defense, education, and homeland security, for example — as well as for general government operations. 

When considering these spending measures, Congress is exercising the power granted to it under the Constitution, which states, "No money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law." Under law, public funds may be used only for the purpose(s) for which Congress appropriated the funds.

COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING

For Fiscal Year (FY) 2023, the House Committee on Appropriations will accept requests for Community Project Funding to certain agencies and accounts subject to the jurisdiction of its respective subcommittees. Requests for Community Project Funding is now open and you can submit a programmic or language appropriations request by filling out this form. The deadline for submissions is April 11.
