About the 2nd District

The Second Congressional District of Michigan spans well over 100 miles of Lake Michigan’s scenic shoreline. The district has a diverse economic background that consists of manufacturing, tourism, small businesses and agriculture.  The district’s largest employers include office furniture manufacturers, auto parts suppliers and food processors. Agriculture plays an important role in the area as Michigan is home to over 200 different commodities, including cherries, apples, asparagus, and dairy.

The area was formerly known for its lumber production and a significant portion of the Huron-Manistee National Forest runs through the district. The area is also home to one of the largest concentrations of Dutch-Americans.  The district is known for its highly skilled workforce and remains a desirable place to raise a family.

The Second Congressional District includes: Lake, Oceana, Newaygo, Muskegon, and Ottawa Counties in their entirety as well as portions of Allegan, Kent, and Mason Counties. A map of the Second District is available here.
