Infrastructure and Transportation

As a member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I understand that a robust transportation system can bolster communities across our nation.  I ensure that our roads, bridges, airports, and mass transit systems are modernized.  Modernization leads to faster and safer travel, good-paying jobs, and thriving local businesses.  That is why I remain committed to authorizing programs allowing New Jersey to benefit from federal funds for infrastructure projects.

As your Congressman, I proudly:

  • Voted for and helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
  • Voted to provide $1.4 billion in emergency funding for New Jersey TRANSIT to help offset the decline in passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Voted for the Stop Price Gouging and Lower Fuel Costs for Americans.
  • Worked with the U.S. Department of Transportation to promote minority business opportunities in government contracts.
  • Supported $700 million for Northeast Corridor rail projects, which include Gateway projects such as replacing the aging Hudson River tunnel.
  • Helped secure federal approval to replace the Portal North Bridge, a Gateway project that will replace the over 100-year-old railroad bridge that carries passengers from New Jersey into New York and connects the entire East Coast.

I believe that taxpayer dollars must be allocated to meaningful infrastructure projects.  I am committed to working with state and local partners to develop innovative solutions to ensure our transportation systems are equitable and resilient.

Bipartisan efforts remain necessary to remove regulatory burdens that hold up essential projects.  Furthermore, there needs to be greater coordination of housing, public transportation, and economic development plans at the local level.  Further, we must ensure that transportation options are available for all users - including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, older persons, individuals with disabilities, and motorists.

It is unfortunate that Congress has to assume the role of mediator to avoid the widespread repercussions of a rail industry lockout or strike due to the inability of the railroads to negotiate with the nearly 115,000 dedicated, hard-working, and essential freight rail workers who’ve kept our economy alive.
