Health Care

Health care is a right and not a privilege. This is a fundamental belief I have always held since I was a local elected official in Essex County, President of the Newark City Council, and now in the U.S. House of Representatives. I am proud to support legislation that expands and guarantees access to health care – including reproductive rights – on behalf of my constituents. I am proud to support Medicare for All, which would make health care more accessible to my constituents and address many socioeconomic inequalities in our health care system. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has expanded affordable, high-quality health insurance. Since enacted, nearly 3.1 million New Jerseyans have received free preventative services; 73,000 young adults have been able to remain under their parents' health plan until the age of 26; and New Jerseyan on Medicare has saved up to $16,000 on prescription drug costs. Every New Jerseyan and American deserves the same high-quality health insurance I receive as a Member of Congress. Affordable healthcare should not be a privilege afforded to a few. That is why I have and will always fight every Republican-led attempt to strip coverage from the American people.

I am privileged to Co-Chair the Men's Health Caucus, the Peripheral Artery Disease, and the Colorectal Cancer caucuses. With my bipartisan co-chairs, we work to share our deep and vested interest in these causes that impact millions of Americans regardless of political party or affiliation. In doing so, we bring together clinical experts, advocates, and outside stakeholders to educate Members of Congress on the importance of these issues and put legislation such as the Men's Health Awareness and Improvement Act, the Amputation Reduction and Compassion Act, and continuing my work with experts and stakeholders on the Donald Payne Sr. Colorectal Cancer Detection Act.

Reproductive Rights

Despite the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, I remain committed to ensuring the reproductive rights and fidelity of all women. I strongly support the Women’s Health Protection Act guaranteeing women the legal right to their own reproductive health choices, including abortions, and protecting a health care provider’s ability to provide abortion services. I am proud that New Jersey will continue to place reproductive rights in the hands of women, their doctors, and no one else.
