Washington, D.C. – In light of continued democratic backsliding in Guatemala, Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) and Congressman Albio Sires (NJ-08), Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security, Migration, and International Economic Policy, were joined by Reps. Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Jim McGovern (MA-02), and Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04), to introduce a resolution in support of anti-corruption and democracy-building efforts in the nation.

Torres (CA-35) urged the Biden Administration to take further action to stabilize Central America, ensure protections for asylum seekers, and expand access to citizenship following the news that Title 42 policy implemented by former President Trump to restrict border access during the COVID-19 pandemic will be lifted.

WASHINGTON- Representatives Norma J. Torres (CA-35) and Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) today announced the relaunch of the Congressional New American Caucus for the 117th Congress.
Founded in February 2017, the Congressional New Americans Caucus is comprised of first-generation immigrants and provides a forum to educate all Members of Congress about issues related to New Americans and public service.

POMONA – Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35), today visited the Pomona Fairplex Emergency Intake Site (EIS) with the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra.
Rep. Torres and Sec. Becerra met with Cherokee Federal and the Department of Health and Homeland Security at the site. Some of the amenities Rep. Torres and Sec. Becerra visited include: the intake center, phone banking, medical center, classrooms, dormitories, and recreation areas.
