Larson Statement on the Release of Brittney Griner

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after Brittney Griner was released from Russian prison: 

“I am relieved to hear that Brittney Griner was finally released from prison and is safely on her way home. I applaud President Biden and the officials involved in negotiations with the Russian government who worked tirelessly to ensure her safety and an end to her wrongful detention. Our hearts are with Brittney, her wife Cherelle, and the entire Griner family.” 

Rep. Larson cosponsored H. Res. 1132, which passed the House in July, urging Russia to immediately release Brittney Griner and the State Department to press for Brittney Griner’s release in all interactions with the Russian government.
