President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed nine bills into law supporting veterans care initiatives, including one that would name a Department of Veterans Affairs clinic planned for West Oahu after the late Hawaii Sen. Daniel Akaka.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Kaialiʻi Kahele (HI-02) joined U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) and other members of Congress at the White House for the signing of S.1760 by President Joe Biden, legislation to designate the veterans out-patient clinic in Leeward Oʻahu, as the Daniel Kahikina Akaka Department of Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic. The bill honors Senator Akaka’s legacy as a champion for military veterans, and Congressman Kahele led and introduced the companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Kai Kahele and his Kaua‘i team searched through the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery for Clyde Caires, Monday ahead of the Memorial Day Observances presented by the Kaua‘i Veterans Council.
Kahele was a speaker at the annual services that returned to in-person following the grip of the pandemic.
