The Health of AmericansExternal is a special issue of The Lancet with contributions from leading health experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). It describes some of the major health challenges facing the United States, including chronic diseases, infectious diseases, and injuries and outlines how opportunities provided by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act could improve public health. The issue also compares health spending in the US (currently the highest in the world per capita) with that of other high-spending OECD countries.
