Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced $17 million in federal funding for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects in Ventura County at Channel Islands Harbor, Ventura Harbor, and the Port of Hueneme.

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) introduced the Start Up in a Day Act, legislation that will permanently authorize the Small Business Administration’s initiative to streamline the tedious processes of starting a business. The bill establishes a competitive grant program for states and local governments to assist entrepreneurs in starting a small business by developing the tools that will allow them to apply for licenses and permits needed to start a business within 24 hours or less.

Congresswoman Brownley and Chair Castor visited Naval Base Ventura County – Point Mugu, held a roundtable discussion at the Port of Hueneme, and toured Houweling’s Tomatoes in Camarillo.

Brownley, D-Westlake Village, who helped in the congressional efforts to fund the Triton program, spoke during Thursday’s gathering.

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) attended the official ceremony welcoming the MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft system to Naval Base Ventura County. Brownley has spearheaded Congressional efforts to fund research, development, and procurement of the Triton, which will have its west coast home at Point Mugu and support hundreds of jobs in Ventura County.

“I want to highlight the advantages of cycling because its better for people’s health than driving, good for the environment and a great recreational activity,” said Brownley, D-Westlake Village. “It’s also a mode of transportation we need to use more, since it gets cars off the road.”

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) spoke at the groundbreaking of the Port of Hueneme’s new Intermodal Infrastructure Project. Brownley helped secure a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) to fund this project, which will provide critical wharf and berth infrastructure improvements and bring new economic activity to Ventura County.

Representatives for several local politicians celebrated the groundbreaking with port officials, while U.S. Rep. Julia Brownley provided a brief keynote speech. Brownley advocated for the port to win the grant by writing letters, making phone calls and otherwise working to market the port to the Economic Development Administration.

Despite their importance, producers of the crop tend to be overlooked, said Rep. Julia Brownley, who toured Sun Valley Group’s Oxnard farm earlier this month. Brownley, D-Westlake Village, decided to tour the farm due to the importance of Mother’s Day to the industry and to raise awareness of the crop.

Rep. Julia Brownley toured ZPower, a Camarillo-based battery manufacturer, on Thursday afternoon to survey the work the company does for veterans. ZPower’s primary clientele is hearing aid manufacturers. The company creates rechargeable microbatteries that can power certain kinds of hearing aids, which typically run on disposable batteries.

She met with ZPower employees and saw firsthand the critical role local manufacturers play in our region’s economy as part of her “Julia at Your Job” series.
