THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTON

For the most recent information regarding my legislative work in Washington, please refer to my new weekly newsletter.  You can also follow me on Facebook - OfficialRepDannyDavis, Instagram - OfficialRepDannyDavis and Twitter - @RepDannyDavis.  While we are almost at the midpoint of this legislative cycle, we have been very successful in moving several of my legislative initiatives out of the Ways and Means tax committee. 

We have passed The Child Care Quality and Access Act of 2019 which would invest an additional $1 billion a year in child care that families across the country need; provisions in tax extenders making it easier for charitable foundations to increase giving in response to natural disasters; extended TANF state block grants through September 30, 2019; increased Sickle Cell funding by $2,000,000 and secured additional funding for non-custodial parents as part of our Fatherhood Initiative, the Seante passed Taxpayer First Act included my Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) which offers free tax services to people who make less than 250 percent of the poverty level; and finally; secured $87.5 Million for the Second Chance Act.

As Chairman of the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, we recently introduced 13 bills supporting innovative job training.  I introduced H.R.3336, Demonstrating that Empowerment Makes Opportunities (DEMO) Act - Which authorizes demonstration projects to test an HPOG/Career Pathways approach for helping individuals with arrest or conviction records enter the health professions, and provides $10 million for them.
