LGBTQ Equality

While we’ve made significant progress on equality for our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters, much unfinished work remains to ensure true and lasting equality for this community and all American families.

In Congress, I’m committed to advancing commonsense legislation that ensures all Americans can live their American Dream, regardless of who they are or who they love. My priorities include:

  • Passing the Equality Act, signature Civil Rights legislation of which I’m a proud original co-sponsor,
  • Repealing the hateful and backwards ban on trans+ servicemembers,
  • Ending health disparities that continue to negatively impact the LGBTQ+ community and
  • Supporting LGBTQ+ students in the classroom and during after school activities.

In order to maintain a dialogue with the Chicagoland’s diverse LGBTQ+ community, I established an LGBTQ+ Advisory Task Force. The Task Force meets quarterly with me and other special guests to discuss key policy issues impacting the community. For more information on the Task Force, please contact my Deputy District Director, Tony Presta, at the Matteson Office.
