Press Release

(Washington) – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) announced that the Fresno County Economic Opportunities Commission has been awarded a $20,032,315 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Grant will help the commission’s Head Start program care for pregnant women and provide education services for children:

“I’m excited about the impact this money will have on Fresno County families and children. Investing in our young people is vital to ensuring they have the tools to succeed in school and later in life. This money is a big win for the valley and I’m proud of work my office does in securing funds for the district,” said Costa.

“This initial allocation will help us continue to serve 3,058 families with educational and comprehensive services for prenatal women and children ages 0 to 5”, said Kathleen Shivaprasad, Fresno EOC Head Start Director 0-5. “We spread these funds across Fresno County with 35 classroom sites and 20 home base service areas. We thank the community and our elected officials for their continued support.”
