Art Competition
The Annual Congressional Art Competitions is one of my most favorite times of the year because I get to highlight the amazing talent of our young people. As a former school teacher, school board member and a current member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, I understand the importance for a well rounded education. Art plays a key role in tapping into our students' creativity and allows them to express themselves in ways that result in beautiful and breathtaking artwork.
I want to thank the art teachers, school principals and especially the parents who play an important role with motivating, encouraging, and supporting our young artists. We must stay committed to ensuring that our children have access to a comprehensive art education.

Congressional Art Competition
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of local leaders in each district select the winning entries, which are then displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
Congresswoman Wilson is now accepting submissions for the 2015 Congressional Art Competition from high school students who live or attend school in Florida’s 24th Congressional District (District 24). To find out if you live or attend school in District 24, visit house.gov and enter your zip code in the upper right corner.
Permissible 2-D media:
-
Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.

Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)

Collages: must be two dimensional
-
Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
-
Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.

Computer-generated art

Photographs
Prizes
The winner will receive:

Year-long exhibition of their artwork in the U.S. Capitol complex

Complimentary airline tickets to Washington, D.C. to attend the reception and installation of the winning entries from congressional districts throughout the country.

A $3,000 per year scholarship from Savannah College of Art and Design upon enrollment there.
District 24 Congressional Art Show and Awards Ceremony
Congresswoman Wilson will announce this year’s winner and recognize all participants and their families at her District 24 Congressional Art Show and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, May 6, 2015, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.
