PARSIPPANY, NJ – U.S. Representatives Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) and Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09) this afternoon spoke about their new legislation to increase nursing home oversight. Reps. Sherrill and Pascrell were joined by two caregivers from Northern New Jersey as well as Donna Griff and Dana Mooney, the daughters of a long-term care facility resident who died from COVID-19. In the interest of safety, the event was held remotely.
WASHINGTON, DC -- Representatives Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-9) and Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) will introduce two pieces of legislation to improve oversight of long-term care facilities and strengthen the laws governing their pandemic response. While only 0.5 percent of U.S. residents live in nursing homes, individuals in nursing homes account for 40 percent of the nation’s COVID-19 deaths.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representatives Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Suzan DelBene (WA-1), and Terri Sewell (AL-7) today introduced the Strictly Pay for Efficient and Expedited Delivery of Your (SPEEDY) COVID-19 Tests Act, which will encourage commercial testing labs to streamline COVID-19 PCR testing notification operations to help patients get their results sooner. Quicker results will improve the diagnostic value of the tests to patients and reduce spread by ensuring infected individuals know their status and are aware they could infect others.
Washington, DC -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted today to advance two major pieces of child care legislation that will help ensure children, families, and workers are protected as we work to safely reopen the country. The Child Care is Essential Act (H.R. 7027) and the Child Care for Economic Recovery Act (H.R. 7327) will create a grant fund for child care providers to support safe reopening and operations and establish or expand tax credits for providers and families.
Washington, DC — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) and Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) introduced the bipartisan Protect Telehealth Access Act today to build on telehealth’s proven success during the COVID-19 pandemic by codifying Medicare reimbursements for telehealth services. The Protect Telehealth Access Act removes the requirement that (1) an individual receiving telehealth services must be located in a rural area or health professional shortage area, and (2) an individual may only receive telehealth services at home in certain limited circumstances.
