Internships

In Washington, D.C.

Congressman Cisneros is pleased to offer internships in his offices in Washington and Fullerton. Internships provide an opportunity for students and recent graduates to learn more about the inner workings of a Congressional office and about our country’s democratic process.

Internships in either office last approximately three months and are intended to be educational experiences. Stipends will be provided in the Washington D.C. office to those that meet the House rules on eligibility. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when not in session.

In Washington, DC, interns' responsibilities vary and may include:

  • Research legislation for the Member and Legislative staff
  • Draft constituent correspondence letters
  • Attend hearings and briefings on behalf of staff
  • Answer phones and constituent inquiries
  • Provide constituents with tours of the Capitol

In the District

In the District office, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent case work or work on District-based projects of importance.

In the district offices, intern duties may include:

  • Drafting constituent letters.
  • Conducting research.
  • Attending community meetings.
  • Assisting with casework.
  • Helping the staff with advance work for the Congressman's visits to the district.
  • Opening and sorting mail.
