Congresswoman Bustos Nominated to Co-Chair Steering and Policy Committee for 117th Congress

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) issued the following statement after Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her nomination to serve as Co-Chair of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.

“Throughout my career, I have sought to lift up voices from the middle of our country – families in our cities and towns, communities that make up rural America and hardworking people all across our nation.

“Today, I am humbled and honored to be nominated for Co-Chair of the Steering and Policy Committee and to continue to bring that perspective to the senior leadership team in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I thank Speaker Pelosi for this nomination, and I salute Congresswoman DeLauro for her long standing service and leadership. I am honored to serve with Reps. Eric Swalwell and Barbara Lee and look forward to partnering with them to continue our work For The People.”

The powerful House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee recommends committee assignments to the Democratic Caucus and helps shape the House policy agenda.

First elected in 2012, Congresswoman Bustos has always been a voice for the hardworking families she serves. In 2016, she was elected to serve as Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), which is tasked with developing a message that communicates how House Democrats are fighting on behalf of working families. In 2018, Congresswoman Bustos was elected Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), which leads the campaign arm of the Democratic Caucus. She will continue to serve on the powerful House Appropriations Committee and on the House Committee on Agriculture.
