Our nation’s economy is dependent upon a safe, efficient, and reliable transportation system for not only moving people, but also goods and services.  In many ways, our transportation infrastructure serves as the backbone of the economy, increasing our competitiveness and leading to greater opportunity and prosperity for all Americans.  Congress must provide appropriate investment in our infrastructure, whether it is for roads, bridges, highways, waterways, ports or rail.  Our current system is aging and deteriorating, and without proper investment, the nation’s economic competitiveness will suffer and fewer jobs will be created.

WASHINGTON, DC - On Friday, Congressman Bob Gibbs introduced the CSA Reform Act to increase road safety through strengthening the effectiveness of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Compliance, Safety, and Accountability (CSA) program. The CSA Reform Act would create a National Hiring Standard to help the industry identify and employ drivers based on the most updated and accurate safety data. The bill ensures safe carriers are treated fairly by creating a pilot program for carriers to request regular safety audits rather than at the subjective whim of the FMCSA.

WASHINGTON, DC - On Wednesday, Congressman Bob Gibbs announced an $18 million U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant for the Regional Transportation Improvement Project to extend U.S. Route 30 to State Route 44. The extension will be approximately three miles long beginning from Trump Avenue. Congressman Gibbs previously wrote to USDOT Secretary Elaine Chao, working with her to promote and lend his support for Route 30.

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Bob Gibbs praised the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) $9 million Infrastructure For Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant for the Irishtown Bend Bulkhead Stabilization project to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA). Gibbs advocated directly to Transportation Secretary Chao on behalf of the project, which will install steel sheeting as bulkheads to prevent erosion and collapse of the Irishtown Bend hillside into the Cuyahoga River.
