CARBONDALE, IL — U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today announced over $830,000 in federal grants for East St. Louis, Jefferson County, and Franklin County schools to strengthen security in the classroom. Over 160 jurisdictions nationwide applied and received grants through a Department of Justice School Violence Prevention Program initiative that Bost introduced and had signed into law in 2018.

CARBONDALE, IL – U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded a $279,000 grant to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. This grant will fund the Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biology Departments’ project to research novel mechanisms in DNA mismatch repair.

Congressional representatives from Southern Illinois and Iowa have introduced bipartisan legislation to combat inadequate funding and teacher shortages in rural schools.
The Rural Education Investment Act was introduced Dec. 11 by U.S. Rep. Mike Bost, R-Ill., and U.S. Rep. Abby Finkenauer, D-Iowa.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Reps. Mike Bost (R-IL) and Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) today introduced bipartisan legislation to combat inadequate funding and teacher shortages in rural schools. The Rural Education Investment Act requires the Secretary of Education to determine the percentage of K-12 students living in rural areas and ensures it is equal to the percentage of Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) grant dollars going to schools in rural areas.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Bost today announced a U.S. Department of Health & Human Services grant of $753,737 for Centerstone of Illinois, Inc. in West Frankfort. The grant will support Centerstone’s Early Head Start program, which provides prenatal and child development services to low-income pregnant women and children three years of age and younger in Franklin and Williamson counties.
