RELEASE: SEEC calls on Department of Energy to make federal buildings more energy efficient

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The House of Representatives Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) today joined with other lawmakers in urging the federal government to reduce its energy consumption- and save taxpayer dollars- through increases in the energy efficiency of federal buildings. In a letter sent to Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu, 58 signers- led by Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.)- called on the department to implement the use of Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs) to accelerate energy savings in U.S. government buildings without upfront capital costs.

RELEASE: S.E.E.C. proclaims victory for American wind energy production with passage of the 'Wind Energy Research and Development Act of 2009'

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (S.E.E.C.) announced passage of legislation to greatly improve American production of wind energy technologies and to maintain American competitiveness in this burgeoning global industry. H.R. 3165, the Wind Energy Research and Development Act of 2009- sponsored by Rep. Paul Tonko (D-N.Y)- is a chief legislative priority for S.E.E.C., and Coalition leaders anticipate that the program created by the legislation will lead to greater U.S. production and implementation of one of the nation's most promising and cost effective clean energy resources.

RELEASE: SEEC Makes U.S. Government Cleaner and Greener, Helps Pass the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) secured a provision in the American Clean Energy and Security Act that will ensure that the U.S. federal government uses more renewable energy. This provision, sponsored by SEEC members Reps. Dina Titus (D-Nev.), Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M), requires that federal government agencies must obtain 20 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by the year 2020. The provision also allows the federal government to enter into more substantial, long-term contracts for purchasing renewable energy, which will benefit capital-intensive renewable energy technologies like solar for which there is a delay between investment and cost-beneficial return.

RELEASE: Inslee and Israel Announce "Aggressive" New Energy and Environment Coalition

Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) and Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) today announced the formation of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), a focused, action-based caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. The group recently met with Assistant to the President Carol Browner to discuss energy and climate policy. Additionally, the SEEC has been working to strengthen green technology provisions in the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.
