As a former Physician Assistant, health care is an issue very close to the heart of Congressmember Karen Bass. With experience working in one of the nation's largest trauma wards in the country, Congressmember Bass advocates and legislates with the goal of making health care right, not a privilege. She believes the richest country in the history of the world should not struggle to cover its citizens.
Now, as we face a global pandemic, Congressmember Bass continues to advocate for quality, affordable health coverage for all.

“There are currently nearly 2,400 children in Office of Refugee Resettlement’s (ORR) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) custody, including licensed shelters.
“The WHO plays a vital role in supporting and enforcing international health regulations, educating the public, and strengthening the ability of health systems—particularly those in the developing world—to prevent, detect, and respond to outbreaks. The organization is not perfect, and we should thoroughly review its early handling of this crisis, particularly its engagement with Chinese authorities, and advocate for appropriate reforms,” wrote the lawmakers.

The bill would require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to collect and report racial, ethnic, and other demographic data on COVID-19 testing, treatment, and fatality rates, and provide a summary of the final statistics and a report to Congress within 60 days after the end of the public health emergency. In a letter to House Leadership, the lawmakers recognized that choices being made during this response will shape society and policy making for years, if not decades, to come and without consideration policymakers risk exacerbating interrelated crises of income and wealth inequality, racism, and ecological decline.
