When President Trump declared a national emergency on March 13, 2020, CMS took action nationwide to aggressively respond to COVID-19See all that we’ve accomplished (PDF) since then in the fight against COVID-19.

Secretary Azar used his authority in the Public Health Service Act to declare a public health emergency (PHE) in the entire United States on January 31, 2020 giving us the flexibility to support our beneficiaries, effective January 27, 2020.  The PHE was renewed on April 21, 2020July 23, 2020, and October 2, 2020, effective October 23, 2020.
