Dear Friend,

I hope everyone enjoys celebrating Presidents' Day tomorrow. As a young man, I met Ronald Reagan in Phoenix. Since then, I have always said he is my favorite President.

We had a busy week of committee hearings, constituent visits, and more in Washington, D.C. Here's a look back on the work I was doing for AZ-06.

Floor Speech on Revolutionary Technology

Image

I spoke on the House Floor about some of the new developments in recent health care and energy technology, and how we must provide access for these revolutions to enter the market. We often discuss how to best provide access to care. These technologies provide at-home detection for illnesses, and ensure patients are properly taking their prescription drugs.

In the energy space, there have been incredible developments in carbon capture technology, and investments in power plants that function without a smoke stack. These new facilities create a cleaner environment at a fraction of the cost.

To watch my full floor speech where I discuss each of these new technologies and the importance of their implementation, click the photo above.

Carbon Capture Legislation

This week, I unveiled legislation that encourages investment in carbon capture technology. I joined Congressman Brad Wenstrup to introduce the legislation that will expand the 45Q carbon sequestration tax credits and make them permanent in the federal tax code.

By enhancing the value of the credit for critical direct air capture products and expanding its availability, this incentivizes private sector projects to remove more carbon from the atmosphere. This will reduce our carbon emissions while creating jobs and driving economic growth.

Surprise Billing Legislation

I introduced HR 5816, the Continuing Care for Patients Act of 2020,  to ensure patients can continue to receive treatment if contractual agreements between their providers and health insurance change, and their provider is no longer in network.

It can be terrifying for patients when they have their previous provider go out-of-network suddenly or unexpectedly. Be it for a pregnancy, or an acute condition, this bill will allow patients to finish their course of care and give them time to find a new provider. This is an important fix that will be included within the bipartisan surprise billing package introduced by the Ways and Means Committee.

We must provide stability for Americans within the healthcare system. I am pleased to be a part of this effort and look forward to continuing to work to prevent surprise billing in our healthcare system.
