Art Competition

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. This event, first introduced in 1982, allows high school students from all 50 states and the District of Columbia and U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability. It is an opportunity for high school students in my Congressional district to have their work displayed, for 11 months, in an exhibit in the Cannon House Office Building tunnel that leads to the U.S. Capitol. The winning student and his or her family will be invited to spend a day with me in Washington DC to celebrate the unveiling of the 2020 student art work exhibition.

We are accepting artwork in a variety of media, thereby allowing students with various talents to participate. There will be a panel of professional judges from the local art community who will serve as judges of this contest. The judges are from independent groups and are not affiliated with my Congressional staff. 

All work must be delivered to my District Office at 375 West Padonia Road, Suite 200, by Friday, April 24, 2020 at 5 p.m.  A decision will be made by Friday, May 1st. The winning artwork must be appropriately matted and framed by the artist in order to be hung in the Cannon House Office Building.  No work will be accepted after the April 24th deadline and all artwork must be claimed by May 22, 2020.
