WASHINGTON D.C. – This week, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 2722 , the Securing America’s Federal Elections (SAFE) Act of 2019.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (D-CA) joined Representatives Don Bacon (R-NE), Seth Moulton (D-MA), and Van Taylor (R-TX) in introducing bipartisan legislation amending the United States Code to criminalize lynching and provide for enhanced sentencing under existing federal hate crime statutes. H.R. 3536, The Justice for Victims of Lynching Act of 2019, would recognize that a lynching offense is a tool used to intimidate and deny civil rights based on personal prejudices.
