Elected in 2014, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis is committed to comprehensive security through promotion of human rights, democracy, economic, environmental, and military cooperation in the 57-nation OSCE region.

Tillis serves on five committees, including the Senator Thom TillisArmed Services Committee where he chairs the Subcommittee on Personnel. He is also the co-chair of the Human Rights Caucus, serving alongside Senator Chris Coons of Delaware. The Human Rights Caucus is a bipartisan initiative to highlight the importance of human rights in U.S. foreign policy and to defend and advocate internationally recognized human rights norms around the world.

In 2016, Senator Tillis introduced the bipartisan Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act with Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland. Co-sponsored by 13 other Senators, this bipartisan legislation ensures that the U.S. government works in a coordinated manner using its full range of tools, including diplomatic, political, financial, and intelligence capabilities, to provide early warnings about at-risk communities and states in order to help prevent mass atrocities against civilians.
