Visiting D.C.

The White House offers public tours Tuesday through Saturday (excluding federal holidays or unless there is an event). Tour requests must be submitted through one’s member of Congress. Tours are self-guided and take approximately 45 minutes. White House tour requests must be submitted at least 30 days in advance and are accepted no more than 6 months in advance. We encourage you to submit your request as early as possible since a very limited number of tours are available. Tours include the East Colonnade, Library, Vermeil Room, China Room, East Room, Green Room, Blue Room, Red Room, State Dining Room, and Entrance Hall. Be sure to ask questions of the Secret Service agents you see along the tour route. Please note that White House tours may be subject to last minute cancellation.
Closest Metro:  McPherson Square or Metro Center White House tour requests require additional personal information such as: name, birth date, place of birth, and social security number. Please be prepared to provide this information for members of your tour party when we respond to your initial request.

Our Washington office is glad to arrange a staff-led tour of the Capitol for your family or school group. Tour reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance, but your requested tour time will more likely be available if booked at least a week in advance. Tours include the Capitol Visitor’s Center, Crypt, Old Supreme Court Chamber, Rotunda, Statuary Hall, Old Senate Chamber, and House Chamber Gallery.

The Supreme Court Building is open to the public Mondaythrough Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. When the Court is not sitting, Courtroom Lectures are generally scheduled every-hour on the half-hour, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a final lecture beginning at 3:30 p.m. On days that the Court is sitting, lectures begin after the Court adjourns. A rolling 30-day calendar is available showing the daily schedule of the lectures. Also, be sure to view the educational exhibitions during your visit.

The Library of Congress- Jefferson building is open to visitors Monday through Saturday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Guided tours are offered Monday through Friday every hour beginning at 10:30 and ending at 3:30, and Saturday beginning at 10:30 and ending at 2:30. Take a free one-hour walking tour of the historic Thomas Jefferson building to learn about its symbolic art and architecture. Guides tell the story of the Library, America’s oldest cultural institution: its history, collections, and services for Congress and the nation. The Jefferson Building is stunningly ornate and a must see while in Washington.

Otherwise known as the Money Factory, the Bureau offers congressionally scheduled tours Monday through Friday on a first come, first served basis, so the earlier you request a tour the better. BEP also offers unreserved tickets available at the ticket booth. The booth is located on Raoul Wallenberg Place (formerly 15th Street). The booth opens at 8:00 AM and closes when all tickets have been distributed. After 1:00 PM, if there are any tickets remaining, they can be picked up at the tour entrance located at 14th and C Streets, SW Please try to arrive early as tickets go quickly. Tours begin every 15 minutes from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM and 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Tours last approximately 40 minutes.
