Our community is in urgent need of relief. Families, workers, and small business owners in our district are hurting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week, the House passed an updated version of the Heroes Act to save lives and protect Americans’ livelihoods. I am now calling on the Senate to act without delay.

The September 30th deadline to fill out the 2020 Census is just around the corner. Right now, our district is falling behind. Only 57.8% of CA-36 has responded to the Census--that’s 10% less than the statewide self-response rate for California!

Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed an attack on the United States Postal Service at the hands of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. The Postal Service is a pillar of our democracy enshrined in the Constitution, and I am committed to defending it for generations to come.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how the health of us all is intertwined. The fact is, we won’t get this pandemic under control until every community in America has access to care. That means we must expand testing and health care services—especially for our essential workers who are risking their lives every day to keep America going.

I know how uncertain these times are. I have heard from many in our community, who after nearly four months, still have not received their Economic Impact Payment from the IRS. That is not right and unacceptable.

I am outraged and share your frustrations. That’s why I’m demanding that the IRS expedite these late and past due stimulus checks right away.

Right now, our brave servicemembers overseas and our returning veterans continue to suffer the health effects of their exposure to toxic burn pits. Our heroes cannot afford to wait. That is why I am continuing the fight to end the use of burn pits once and for all.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen spikes in COVID-19 cases across the country. Even in the desert summer heat, the coronavirus is spreading and causing a rapid rise in hospitalizations in our community. That is why it is critical we keep working together to prevent the spread of the virus.

Hearts were broken – once again – after the killings of Ahmaud Arbrey in Georgia, Breonna Taylor in Louisville, and George Floyd in Minneapolis. We must come together to address the injustices that Black Americans continue to experience every day at the hands of systemic racism.
