Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), the lead author of the Dream and Promise Act (HR 6) and an original co-author of the Dream Act, issued the following statement about the Trump Administration’s announcement on the future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“The Trump Administration is unlawfully refusing to comply with two court orders to accept new DACA applications.  Instead, the Administration has announced it will reject all pending and future initial requests for DACA and Advance Parole, and limit current DACA recipients to one-year extensions instead of full two-year protections.  We cannot allow the Administration to selectively choose which court orders it obeys and which ones it ignores.  Most importantly, we cannot allow DACA-eligible youth to keep living in a limbo of uncertainty about DACA’s future.  I urge USCIS to accept new applications for DACA and Advance Parole, and honor the program’s two-year legal protection extensions.  I also renew my call for my Senate colleagues to pass HR 6, my American Dream and Promise Act, now, so we can protect our Dreamers permanently.”
