Press Release

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement after Speaker Pelosi named him as one of the Members of the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis:

“I am honored to be named to the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, and I thank Speaker Pelosi for her leadership in creating this important Select Committee and asking me to be a part of it. In the midst of an unprecedented public health and economic crisis, it’s critical to ensure taxpayer dollars being spent to confront the pandemic and provide economic relief for families and small businesses are being spent effectively and as intended. We must do all we can to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse, and to protect against price-gouging and profiteering.

“As a businessman and a scientist, I know that getting our economy going again can only be done when the public health is protected. I look forward to working with Chairman Clyburn and the other members of the Select Committee, on both sides of the aisle, to provide the oversight and accountability the American people deserve.”

Congressman Foster represents the 11th Congressional District of Illinois, which includes Aurora, Naperville, and Joliet. He is a Ph.D. physicist who spent 24 years as a high-energy particle physicist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois before serving in Congress. Foster’s business career began at age 19 when he and his younger brother co-founded Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc., a company that now manufactures over half of the theater lighting equipment in the United States.”

In Congress, Foster serves as Chairman of the Financial Services Committee’s Artificial Intelligence Task Force, and Chairman of the House Science Committee’s Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
