Congressman Krishnamoorthi Convenes Unity Breakfast with Local Faith and Community Leaders in Aftermath of Attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh

SCHAUMBURG, IL – On Wednesday, Congressman Krishnamoorthi held a unity breakfast in Schaumburg to bring together religious and civic leaders to strengthen bonds and dialogue in the wake of the attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh and other disturbing attacks across the nation. In addition to religious leaders from the Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jain, and Sikh communities, participants at the breakfast included elected officials, business leaders, representatives from law enforcement, and members of the African-American, Latino, Asian-American, and LGBTQ communities.

“In the wake of the hate-driven attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, the apparently racially-motivated murders of two African-Americans in Kentucky, and so many similar recent acts of hate, I was grateful that so many leaders from so many faiths and organizations within our community were able to join together in unity, as well as mourning,” said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. “This morning, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Christians, and so many others stood shoulder to shoulder in our shared commitment to the values of pluralism and diversity. These events may have broken our hearts, but they have not broken our community or our will to create a more inclusive, tolerant, diverse, and peaceful America.  We remain united in our determination to rid our country of hate, discrimination, bigotry, and prejudice.  I’m convinced the vast majority of our community and country stand with us, and we will defeat the forces of darkness, hatred and evil that motivated the recent attacks.”
